I'm Natalyn.

Good morning to everyone!

Would all of you mind introducing yourself to one another through blogposts/facebook/other social networking sites? (But blogposts first of all!) Well, since we can't meet up with one another for project meetings because we're just about more than 7hours away from one another, let's communicate so that we'll know each other better, and of course, make this blog MORE LIVELY!

First of all, my name is Natalyn. I'm a Singaporean, a 3rd year Sociology major from NUS. I love to dance, and I've been dancing since I was three and haven't stopped since. I used to do ballet when I was younger, and I'm doing more modern, jazz, contemporary and hiphop pieces right now. I am currently in NUS Dance Ensemble, and going to have a performance next week (19th-21st of March). At the same time, I am working part-time as a waitress at Marina Square. It's an Irish Pub called Durty Nelly's. Be there when you can. =)

A recent photograph of myself.

And this is my Facebook account (Click here).
Do add me, and make this collabration a more vibrant one.

Administrative Details

Hello and welcome to the blog! I just wanted to take a minute to talk about some administrative details and lay some ground rules to make this work smoothly.

First off, I've made everyone an administrator, so you should be able to post and comment as well as format the blog properties. Let's leave the general setup as it is, although if something needs to be changed, run it by everyone so that we're in agreement.

We had a double post of the same thing, so I removed one, so in the future let's read and respond to what's already there. Content is more important than how it looks :)

I think the best way to organize our collaboration would be to post the assignment or questions and then discuss using the comments feature. This keeps everything organized. Any other thoughts or ideas you'd like to discuss, not related to those can have their own post.

I've put a links and readings gadget on the side, so feel free to post to those as well.

I think that's about it. Feel free to post pictures and videos as they relate. If you have any problems with anything, let me know and I'll try to help. Thanks!

Week 8 Tutorial: Tragedy of the Commons

QUESTIONS
  • What is a commons?

  • List some examples of communal systems that you and your Australian partners have been a part of and identify which ones have worked and which have not.

  • What are some of the key determinants that dictate whether the communal systems identified above examples above have worked or not?

  • Why is it that some communal systems involved in the management of resources work while others dont? Example: Why do some group houses "work" while others don't, and why do some "tea-clubs" work but in others all the biscuits get pinched!

  • Were there any distinct international/cultural differences between Singapore and Australia that explain why some communal systems worked, while others did not? If not, why not?
